Provided is a liquid crystal composition which satisfies at least one property or has an adequate balance between at least two properties out of a high upper limit temperature, low lower limit temperature, low viscosity, appropriate optical anisotropy, high negative dielectric anisotropy, high specific resistance, high stability against ultraviolet rays, high stability against heat, etc. Provided is an AM element which has properties such as a short response time, high voltage holding ratio, low threshold voltage, high contrast ratio and long life. The present invention is a liquid crystal composition which comprises a specific compound having at least two polymerizable groups, and a liquid crystal display element which includes the composition, wherein the composition may include a specific compound having a high negative dielectric anisotropy as a first component and a specific compound having a high upper limit temperature or low viscosity as a second component.
