Abstract:
Provided is a novel liquid crystal compound which exhibits general physical properties necessary to a liquid crystal compound, namely, excellent stabilities to heat, light and so on, a wide liquid-crystal-phase temperature range, a high clearing point, good compatibility with other compounds, a large refractive anisotropy, a large dielectric anisotropy, and a low viscosity. The novel liquid crystal compound is represented by general formula (1) [wherein R1 is C1-20 alkyl; A1 and B1 are each 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Z1 and Z2 are each a single bond, -CH2CH2-, -CH=CH-, or -CH≡C-; L1 is fluorine; L2, Y1 and Y2 are each hydrogen, fluorine, or chlorine; X1 is halogen, -C≡N, or C1-10 alkyl; in this alkyl group, any -CH2- group may be replaced by -O- or -S-; and m is 1 and n is 0.]
