Abstract:
Liquid-crystal compounds exhibiting a liquid-crystal phase over a wide temperature range and having a low viscosity, a high refractive anisotropy and a high elastic constant ratio (K33/K11); a liquid-crystal composition containing at least one of these compounds; and a liquid-crystal display element made by using this composition. The liquid-crystal compounds are represented by general formula (1), wherein R is C1-C10 alkyl or C2-C10 alkenyl; R'is C1-C10 alkyl, C2-C10 alkenyl, F, C1, CN, OCF3, CF3, OCF2H, CF2H or CFH2; and A1 and A2 are each independently trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene wherein one or more of the hydrogen atoms on the 6-membered ring may be replaced by halogen, or a single bond, each of the elements constituting the compound being optionally replaced by an isotope thereof.
