Abstract:
A liquid crystal display device which comprises a pair of substrates, a negative liquid crystal layer that is held between the pair of substrates, a sealing part that is held between the pair of substrates and is arranged around the liquid crystal layer, and a pair of alignment films that are respectively arranged on the liquid crystal layer-side surfaces of the pair of substrates. This liquid crystal display device is configured such that: the liquid crystal layer is formed from a liquid crystal composition that contains a compound having a functional group represented by formula (A); the sealing part contains a radical polymerization initiator; the alignment films are formed from a polymer that contains a polyimide; the polyimide uses a polyamic acid as the precursor; and the imidization rate of the polyimide in the entire polymer is 60% or more.
(In the formula, X represents an oxygen radical, a hydroxyl group, a C1-20 linear alkyl group or a C3-20 branched alkyl group; and each of Y1-Y4 represents a C1-4 linear alkyl group or a C3-4 branched alkyl group.)
