Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1987/000301
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell in which a pair of substrates (1, 1') having electrodes (2, 3) are opposed to each other with the surfaces having electrodes located inside, a ferroelectric liquid crystal (7) which is located between said substrates (1, 1') and which exhibits a chiral smectic C-phase, and a polarizer plate (8) on the side of incident light, one of said electrodes serving as a light-reflecting electrode (2). Since the number of parts is small, light absorption loss is small. Further, since the reflecting plate is kept off the atmospheric air, the reflecting plate is not oxidized and the coefficient of reflection is prevented from decreasing. The display device can be used for microcomputers, word processors, and TV's.
