Abstract:
A liquid crystal display device (100) comprising a first liquid crystal display panel (1), which assumes a transparent display state, and a second liquid crystal display panel (2). In the transparent display state, the first liquid crystal display panel transmits at least one portion of light emitted from the second liquid crystal display panel. The first liquid crystal display panel has: a first liquid crystal layer (1L) which is held between a pair of substrates; and first and second polarising elements (1F, 1B) which are disposed so as to sandwich the first liquid crystal layer. The second liquid crystal display panel has: a second liquid crystal layer (2L) which is held between a pair of substrates; and a third polarising element (2F) which is disposed at the first liquid crystal display panel side of the second liquid crystal layer. The second polarising element (1B) of the first liquid crystal display panel is disposed at the second liquid crystal display panel side and is disposed such that the transmission axis of the second polarising element (1B) and the transmission axis of the third polarising element (2F) are not orthogonal.
