Abstract:
This phase modulator comprises a first electrode, a second electrode, and a liquid crystal layer which contains a plurality of liquid crystal molecules and is disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein: the height of the liquid crystal layer from the first electrode to the second electrode is 30-50 μm; and in a planar view of a first surface which includes the first electrode, the liquid crystal layer, and the second electrode and which intersects the in-plane direction of the first electrode, at least two liquid crystal molecules disposed adjacently in a direction parallel to the in-plane direction of the first electrode and having different orientations are included.
