Abstract:

When a replacement cartridge is placed in the vicinity of a radio communication unit provided in a housing of a printer, information stored in a non-volatile memory of the replacement cartridge is acquired by the radio communication unit. The CPU of the printer compares a remaining ink amount of the replacement cartridge obtained from the acquired information with a cartridge ink remaining amount of the cartridge on a carriage containing the same color of ink as the ink in the replacement cartridge. When the replacement cartridge has a greater ink remaining amount, the CPU decides that the cartridge should be replaced and moves the carriage so that the cartridge to be replaced is located immediately below the opening of the housing. This facilitates the cartridge replacement work.
