Abstract:
The present invention provides: a method for producing a carboxylate/carbonate complex of a group 2 element of the periodic table, while suppressing the formation of a precipitate of a carbonate salt; and a high-quality carboxylate/carbonate complex of a group 2 element of the periodic table, which contains a small amount of precipitate of a carbonate salt. The present invention relates to a method for producing a liquid overbased metal complex that has a carboxylate/carbonate complex structure and/or phenate/carbonate complex structure of a group 2 metal atom of the periodic table. This method for producing a liquid overbased metal complex comprises: a first step wherein a hydroxide of a group 2 metal atom of the periodic table, a hydrocarbon-based solvent having a boiling point of 150°C or higher, a monohydric alcohol having 8-20 carbon atoms, a carboxyl group-containing compound and/or a phenolic compound, and a surfactant having an HLB of 10 or more are mixed with each other so as to produce a carboxylate and/or phenate of the metal atom; and a second step wherein carbon dioxide is added to the carboxylate and/or phenate of the group 2 metal atom of the periodic table obtained in the first step so as to produce a carboxylate/carbonate complex structure and/or phenate/carbonate complex structure of the metal atom of the periodic table.
