Abstract:
By just adding a simple structure to a hydraulic circuit used in a conventional torque converter, the present invention makes the supply of hydraulic fluid in the lock-up state unnecessary. The present lock-up device is provided with a first clutch section (28), a piston (30), a dog clutch (32), a first hydraulic port (P1), and a drain port (Pd). The first clutch section (28) is operated by hydraulic fluid. The piston (30) is disposed between the first clutch section (28) and a turbine (4) and transmits torque from the first clutch section (28) to the turbine (4). The dog clutch (32) has a coupling member (40) operated by hydraulic fluid and capable of mechanically coupling a front cover (2) with the piston (30). The first hydraulic port (P1) operates the first clutch section (28) and supplies hydraulic fluid for operating the coupling member (40) of the dog clutch (32). The drain port (Pd) releases the coupling by the coupling member (40) of the dog clutch (32).
