Abstract:
In order to improve fuel consumption by reducing a load, etc. acting on a hydraulic pump while a lockup clutch is engaged, this lockup device is disposed in the space between the front cover (2) and the turbine (4) of a torque converter and mechanically connects the front cover (2) and the turbine (4). The lockup device is provided with a clutch section (30) and a release section (31). The clutch section (30) is disposed in the path of transmission of power from the front cover (2) to the turbine (4), and in a set attitude, the clutch section (30) is in a clutch engaged state in which power from the front cover (2) is transmitted to the turbine (4). The release section (31) is operated by hydraulic pressure and sets the clutch section (30), which is in the clutch engaged state, to a clutch disengaged state to block the transmission of power from the front cover (2) to the turbine (4).
