Abstract:

A lubricant which has excellent compatibility with ammonia, is satisfactory in stability and lubricity, and is highly suitable for practical use. The lubricant for use in a refrigerating machine employing ammonia as a refrigerant is characterized by containing a polyether compound represented by the following general formula (1) or (2) and an additive selected among an antioxidant, a wearing inhibitor, and a metal inactivator. X{-O-(AO)¿n?-H}¿p? (1) X{-O-(AO?1¿)¿a?-(AO?2¿)¿b?-H}¿p? (2) [In the formulae, X represents the residue formed by removing the hydroxyl group(s) from a mono- or polyol; (AO)¿n? represents a polyoxyalkylene chain which is formed by the copolymerization of EO and an alkylene oxide having 3 or more carbon atoms; the number of secondary hydroxyl groups among the terminal hydroxyl groups accounts for 50% or more of the total number of the hydroxyl groups; (AO?1¿)¿a? represents a polyoxyalkylene chain formed by the copolymerization of EO with PO and/or BO; and AO?2¿ represents an oxyalkylene group having 3 or more carbon atoms.]
