Title:
LUMINAIRE HAVING A MOCK LIGHT SOURCE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2001013039
Kind Code:
A8
Abstract:
A luminaire (11) has a light reduction cover element (37) below and in proximity to the active light source (17) of the luminaire to simulate a larger light source having a lower surface brightness which is exposed through the luminaire's down light opening (27). For example, where the luminaire has a high output T5 lamp (17), the light reduction cover element can be in the form of a substantially semi-cylindrical opal diffuser cover strip (17) sized to simulate a T8 or T12 lamp. An opal diffuser cover strip (65) having two side-by-side arcuate portions (85a, 85b) joined at their interior edges (83a, 83b) to form an opaque center ridge (87) can be positioned under two side-by-side T5 lamps (63a, 63b) to simulate side-by-side T8 or T12 lamps.
