Abstract:
Provided are: a machine tool which can precisely determine whether or not a dinking process has been performed successfully; and a device for controlling the machine tool. An NC lathe 1 performs, in a state where an identical workpiece W is being held by a first main shaft 31 capable of moving in the axial direction and a second main shaft 61 opposing the first main shaft 31, dinking on the workpiece W, and then performs separation movement for moving the second main shaft 61 in a direction that moves away from the first main shaft 31. The NC lathe comprises: a movement control unit 211 which performs control to stop the first main shaft 31 at a command position during the separation movement; and a dinking success/failure determination unit 213 which monitors, during the separation movement, positional deviation representing the difference between the command position and the actual position of the first main shaft 31, and which determines, on the basis of the positional deviation, whether or not the dinking process has been successful.
