Abstract:
The invention relates to a machine tool (11) and to a method for producing workpieces by means of such a machine tool, in particular a laser processing machine, comprising a workpiece support (14) for accommodating plate-shaped materials (15) for processing by means of a severing device that has a processing head (13), which can be moved at least in the Y direction during a severing process in the plate-shaped material (6), wherein the workpiece support (14) comprises a first support table (31) having a first support surface (38) and a second support table (32) having a second support surface (39), wherein the support surfaces (38, 39) are at a distance from each other in order to form a gap (35) below the processing head (13), and wherein the position of the gap (36) and the width (37) of the gap (36) in the processing area (30) of the severing process can be set by the positioning of the support tables (31, 32) relative to each other in the X direction, wherein a controller (20) is provided, which controls a movement of the support tables (31, 32) such that a gap width (37) between the support tables (31, 32) can be set that is adapted to a size of a workpiece (21) or waste part to be ejected downward through the gap (36) between the support tables (31, 32).
