Abstract:

This machine tool is provided with: a workpiece main spindle unit (15) provided with a workpiece main spindle (17) and a workpiece main spindle motor (20); and a tool main spindle unit (25) provided with a tool main spindle (27) and a tool main spindle motor. The machine tool is further provided with: a first axis moving mechanism (6) and a second axis moving mechanism (9) for relatively moving, within a plane including the axis of the workpiece main spindle (17) and the axis of the tool main spindle (27), the workpiece main spindle unit (15) and the tool main spindle unit (25) in a first axial direction and in a second axial direction intersecting the first axial direction, respectively; and a control device. The tool main spindle unit (25) is disposed such that the axis of the tool main spindle (27) intersects the axis of the workpiece main spindle (17). The control device relatively moves the workpiece main spindle unit (15) and the tool main spindle unit (25) in the axial direction of the tool main spindle (27) through a combined operation of the first axis moving mechanism (6) and the second axis moving mechanism (9), and grinds a workpiece (W) by a cup-type grindstone (T).
