CLAIMS
1. A macromotecular material of the formula AB, comprising a moiety A having a molecular weight within the range of from 400 to 7000, containing an alkyl or alkylene chain, and having a linearity such that its degree of crystallinity is at least 25%, and a moiety B imparting oil solubility to the material, moiety B having a degree of crystallinity of at most 10%, the moieties A and B being linked by a bond other than a carbon to carbon bond, or being linked by a functional group.
2. A material as claimed in claim 1, wherein moiety A is an ethylenebased homopolymer or copolymer.
3. A material as claimed in claim 2, wherein the polymer is obtainable by polymerization of ethylene optionally in the presence of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated monomer.
4. A material as claimed in claim 2, wherein the polymer is obtainable by alphaomega enchainment of a linear diene and subsequent hydrogenation.
5. A material as claimed in claim 1, wherein moiety A is a wax.
6. A material as claimed in claims 1 to 5, wherein moiety B is an ethylene based homopolymer or copolymer.
7. A material as claimed in claim 6, wherein moiety B is obtainable by polymerization of ethylene optionally in the presence of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer.
8. A material as claimed in claim 6, wherein the polymer is obtainable by 1,2 enchainment polymerization of a linear diene, by polymerization of a branched diene, or by a combination of such polymerizations, and subsequent hydrogenation.
9. A material as claimed in claims 1 to 8, wherein moieties A and B are linked by the reaction product of nucleophilic and electrophilic groups or by the product of reaction of an electrophilic group with an ethylenically unsaturated linkage.
10. A material as claimed in claim 9, wherein the linkage is derived from a phenol or hydroquinone residue.
11. A material as claimed in claim 10, wherein the acid group has been attached to a moiety by the Koch reaction.
12. An additive composition comprising (i) a material as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 11 and (ii) a cold flow improver other than a material as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 11.
13. A composition as claimed in claim 12, wherein component (ii) is one selected from: (A) ethyleneunsaturated ester compounds, (B) comb polymers, (C) polar nitrogen compounds, (D) hydrocarbon polymers, (E) hydrocarbyl esters of aminesubstituted carboxylic acids, (F) poly (meth) acrylate esters, (G) polyoxyalkylene compounds, and (H) a mixture of saturated hydrocarbons, at least some of which have a number of carbon atoms within the range of 15 to 60.
14. A composition as claimed in claim 12, wherein component (ii) comprises an ethyleneunsaturated ester copolymer.
