Abstract:
A card reader (1) includes an insertion opening (22) into which a magnetic card (21) is inserted, transfer means (25-28) for transferring the magnetic card (21) inserted into the insertion opening (22), a magnetic head (29) for reading data from the magnetic card (21) being transferred, and a magnetic field generation unit (8) provided near the insertion opening (22). An interference magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generation unit (8) acts on an illegal reading device (300) mounted to the front surface of a panel (200), preventing the data in the magnetic card (21) from being acquired illegally. In addition, a magnetic body (40) is provided below the magnetic head (29) to unevenly distribute the magnetic field extending backwards from the magnetic field generation unit (8), preventing the interference magnetic field from reaching the magnetic head (29).
