Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium according to the present invention includes: an elongated substrate; and a magnetic layer containing magnetic powder and a binder, wherein the glass transition point of the binder is not lower than 75°C. When an observation image in the form of a 10 μm × 10 μm rectangle is acquired by means of an atomic force microscope at five points randomly selected from the face on the magnetic layer side, in the observation images acquired at four points among the observation images acquired at the five points, there is no line-shaped projection having a height of 3-20 nm, having a width of 0.3-1.0 μm, and spanning two sides of the observation image.
