Abstract:
This magnetic tape device is provided with: a magnetic tape as a recording medium; a transfer section that moves the magnetic tape along a transfer path; a magnetic head, which is disposed on the transfer path, and which performs data reading/writing with respect to the magnetic tape moving on the transfer path; and a lifter section, which is disposed on the transfer path, and which is in contact with the magnetic tape stopped on the transfer path, said lifter section being provided such that the lifter section can reciprocate in the direction intersecting the transfer path, thereby separating the magnetic tape from the magnetic head.
