Abstract:
Provided are: a magneto-optical material with which the adjustment width of magneto-optical characteristics such as a Faraday rotation angle can be increased; and a production method therefor. The temperature of a substrate 20 is controlled to a first temperature included in the range of 300-800[ºC], and the ambient pressure of the substrate 20 is controlled to at most 1.0×10-4 [Pa] (first step). By means of a composite target of a magnetic metal and a TCO material exhibiting ENZ characteristics in an infrared wavelength range, or a plurality of targets of respective materials, a magneto-optical material 10 is deposited on the substrate 20 while controlling the temperature of the substrate 20 to a second temperature included in the range of 300-800[ºC], and controlling the ambient pressure of the substrate 20 in the range of 0.1-10 [Pa] (second step). The magneto-optical material 10 has a nano-granular structure including: a matrix 11 composed of a transparent conductive oxide; and magnetic metal particles 12 dispersed in the matrix 11.
