Title:
MAGNIFYING OPTICAL SYSTEM, OPTICAL SYSTEM FOR HEAD-MOUNTED DISPLAYS, AND OPTICAL SYSTEM FOR DIGITAL CAMERA VIEW-FINDERS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2009/014256
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A magnifying optical system having a size similar to or smaller than those using
a free-curve surface prism and manufactured easily at low manufacturing cost.
The magnifying optical system is used in combination with a display (D) and has
a prism (P) having a cross-section of generally right-angled isosceles triangle
and a lens (L). The prism (P) has a first surface (P1) facing to the display (D),
a second surface (P2) facing to the lens (L), and a third surface (P3) interposed
between the first and second surfaces (P1, P2). The image light from the display
(D) enters the prism (P) through the first surface (P1) which is an axis-symmetrical
aspherical surface, is reflected from the second surface (P2), and exits from
the third surface (P3) which is an axis-symmetrical aspherical surface. When
the image light passes through the first and third surfaces (P1, P3) of the prism
(P), the image light is expanded by refraction. The image light exiting the prism
(P) is refracted by the lens (L) and the image is further magnified.
