This management device is used in a vehicle-mounted network including one or more vehicle-mounted function units, and comprises: a detection unit that detects the addition of a function unit to the vehicle-mounted network; a determination unit that, on the basis of requirement information which is transmitted from a new function unit that is the function unit the addition of which has been detected by the detection unit and which indicates a requirement necessary for the vehicle-mounted function units and the new function unit to communicate with each other, determines whether the vehicle-mounted function units satisfy the requirement; and an update request unit that, if the determination unit determines that the vehicle-mounted function units do not satisfy the requirement, transmits, to an external device different from the vehicle-mounted function units, update request information requesting an update of the vehicle-mounted function units.
