Abstract:
The present invention suppresses a disturbance of the flame of an auxiliary burner, sufficiently shrink-fastens a porous preform, and suppresses the occurrence of cracks in the porous preform during a vitrification process. Provided is an optical fiber porous preform manufacturing device comprising at least one main burner provided within a reaction vessel, and a gas supply part that supplies a raw material gas and a combustible gas to the main burner. In the reaction vessel, the main burner is moved relative to a starting material while a gas containing the combustible gas and the raw material gas is supplied to the starting material from the main burner, and microparticles are deposited on the outer periphery of the starting material to form a porous preform. The optical fiber porous preform manufacturing device further comprises at least one auxiliary burner that heats an end section of the porous preform, and an airflow guide means provided near the auxiliary burner.
