Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for manufacturing 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC), the method being characterized by culturing, in a culture medium, a labyrinthulean micro-organism that produces 7-DHC and that has decreased sterol 24-C-methyl group transfer activity in comparison to the parent strain or no sterol 24-C-methyl group transfer activity, generating and accumulating 7-DHC in a culture, and then harvesting the 7-DHC from the culture. Also provided is a method for manufacturing vitamin D3, the method being characterized in that UV light is shone onto 7-DHC manufactured by the aforementioned manufacturing method.
