Abstract:
A map update device and method for a navigation system according to the present invention comprises: a first map DB for storing all map data; a second map DB to which difference data for map data to be updated in the first map DB are downloaded from a server and in which map data updated with the difference data are stored; a navigation module unit which, when map data required for route guidance in the first map DB is being synchronized, reads the corresponding map data from the second map DB by making reference to a block ID index, so as to perform the route guidance; and an update module unit which downloads difference data from the server, stores, in the second map DB, map data updated with the difference data, and copies the map data, which have been stored in the second map DB, into the first map DB, so as to synchronize the first map DB with the map data.
