Abstract:
The invention relates to packed cross-flow heat-mass transfer column apparatus in which the processes of separating liquid-vapour mixtures by rectification, distilling liquid-vapour mixtures and separating liquid-gas mixtures by absorption are carried out, and can be used in the oil refining, petrochemical, chemical, gas and food industries and in other areas of industry. Proposed is a "PETON" system mass transfer column with a cross flow of liquid and gas (vapour) phases, comprising a housing, a feedstock inlet pipe, distillate and residue outlet pipes, auxiliary flow inlet and outlet pipes, and cross-flow packing sections, said sections being separated heightwise by horizontal partitions having, successively in the direction of flow of the gas (vapour) phase in the normal section of the housing, a port for the passage of gas (vapour) on the inlet side of the packing and a continuous region on the outlet side of the packing, which alternate from one vertically adjacent horizontal partition to the next, with liquid distributors being disposed between adjacent packing sections and above the uppermost packing section, said liquid distributors consisting of three successively interconnected components: a horizontal sheet, a set of steps and a blind pocket. The invention solves the problem of developing a highly efficient mass transfer column which allows for abrupt changes in the flow rates of a liquid phase, while significantly extending the stable operating range of the apparatus and permitting the use of contact devices with different numbers of flows in a single apparatus.
