Abstract:

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a master cylinder that is capable of ensuring responsiveness during a braking operation, improving a delay in releasing brakes, ensuring responsiveness during automatic braking, and quickly releasing residual pressures in hydraulic chambers. This master cylinder: is equipped with a cylinder body having a cylinder hole, pistons that are slidably inserted in the cylinder body and respectively partition a hydraulic chamber, communication paths that are provided on the cylinder body and communicate with a reservoir, relief ports that are formed in the pistons and allow the communication paths and the hydraulic chambers to communicated with each other, and seal members that are placed inside recessed sections that are formed on the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder hole of the cylinder body with the pistons slidably inserted therethrough and provide sealing between the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder hole and the outer circumferential surfaces of the pistons; and is configured such that the communication paths and the relief ports communicate with each other when the master cylinder is not operated, and the communication between the communication paths and the relief ports is blocked by the seal members as the pistons move when the master cylinder is operated. The master cylinder is characterized in that a flow path control member capable of opening/closing the relevant relief port is provided on the hydraulic chamber side of the relief port.
