Abstract:
Provided is a material for brake shims, the material exhibiting excellent salt water resistance without a chromate treatment, exhibiting excellent workability, and having a surface coating film exhibiting high adhesion to a substrate. The material for brake shims is characterized by having a surface coating film provided on at least a portion of one main surface or both main surfaces of a substrate made of a metal plate, with a metal-containing film disposed therebetween, wherein the metal-containing film includes (A) a reaction product of a metal and an acidic component or at least one carbonate selected from among a Mg carbonate, a Co carbonate, a Zr carbonate, a Mn carbonate, a Ni carbonate, and a Cu carbonate, and (B) at least one selected from among silica, alumina, zirconia, and titania.
