Title:
MEANS FOR MANUFACTURING MICROBEADS COMPRISING THERMOPLASTIC POLYMER MICROPARTICLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/024669
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a means for manufacturing microbeads (polymer microparticles) comprising a thermoplastic polymer and having an average particle diameter of 10 μm or less, even extending into the nano-range. A starting filament comprising a thermoplastic polymer is passed through an orifice under an air pressure (P1) and guided to a spray chamber under an air pressure (P2; where P1>P2). The raw filament having passed through the orifice is heated and melted under irradiation by an infrared beam, and is sprayed in microparticulate form from the orifice by the flow of air generated by the pressure differential between P1 to P2, whereby microbeads comprising thermoplastic polymer microparticles having an average particle diameter of 10 μm or less, and even less than 1 μm are manufactured.
