Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a mechanical seal device and a sliding ring thereof for use in an aqueous environment, with which it is possible to exceptionally minimize adhesion of SiO2 to a sliding ring made of SiC and maintain a stable sealing effect over a long period of time even when the mechanical seal device is used in an aqueous environment such as ultra-pure water or pure water. The present invention provides a mechanical seal device for use in an aqueous environment, in which a fluid to be sealed having a high specific resistance value, such as ultra-pure water or pure water, is sealed by close contact between opposing sliding surfaces of a stationary-side sliding ring made of SiC and a rotation-side sliding ring made of SiC, the rotation-side sliding ring being arranged facing the stationary-side sliding ring, wherein the sliding rings including these sliding surfaces are configured from sintered compacts of a material in which an Al additive is blended with SiC as a parent material, and the specific resistance value of the sliding rings including these sliding surfaces is 100 Ω⋅cm or less.
