This medication package checking system (10) is provided with a packaging instruction section (11) which generates the number of each type of tablet to be encapsulated in a medication package (13) as packaging instruction information (26), a tablet packaging section (12) which encapsulates tablets in the medication package (13) on the basis of the packaging instruction information (26), an image capturing section (15) which generates a medication package image by capturing the medication package (13) encapsulating the tablets, and a tablet checking section (16) which checks the number of tablets encapsulated in the medication package (13) by pattern matching the medication package image with tablet patterns which are the shape patterns of the tablets that should be encapsulated in the medication package indicated by the packaging instruction information (26). When the packaging instruction information (26) includes information of different shaped tablets which are tablets that are cut up on the basis of the packaging instruction information (26), the tablet checking section (16) checks the number of the different shaped tablets by pattern matching the medication package image with different shaped tablet patterns which are the shape patterns of the different shaped tablets.
