A medicinal composition effective in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. The medicinal composition comprises a combination of: an &agr -amylase inhibitor selected between a compound represented by the following general formula (I): (wherein A represents a cyclic group, etc.; R¹ and R² each represents alkyl, hydroxylmethyl, etc.; and n is 1 or 2) and a pharmacologically acceptable salt or ester of the compound; and at least one drug selected among an insulin sensitivity enhancer, insulin secretion accelerator, biguanide agent, insulin preparation, and DPP-IV inhibitor.
