Abstract:
Provided is a continuous liquid separation method in which an emulsion comprising a hydrophilic liquid phase and a hydrophobic liquid phase is demulsified to obtain a demulsified liquid; the optical characteristics of the demulsified liquid are measured; a membrane is used to separate the demulsified liquid into a membrane-permeable liquid and a membrane-impermeable liquid, said membrane being easy for the hydrophobic liquid phase to permeate and difficult for the hydrophilic liquid phase to permeate, or, said membrane being easy for the hydrophilic liquid phase to permeate and difficult for the hydrophobic liquid phase to permeate; the optical characteristics of the membrane-permeable liquid are measured; a time-series recording of the measured values of the optical characteristics of the demulsified liquid and the measured values of the optical characteristics of the membrane-permeable liquid is performed; and the state of the demulsification or the membrane separation is diagnosed on the basis of the time-series recording. Also provided is an apparatus for the method.
