Abstract:
By using a metal complex including a ruthenium ion or an osmium ion and a tridentate aminodicarbene ligand that includes one secondary amine group and two specific heterocyclic carbene groups sandwiching the amine group, it is possible to subject, for example, carbonyl compounds, such as ketones, carboxylic acid esters, lactones, carboxylic acid amides, and lactams, and imines to hydrogenation reduction under relatively mild conditions, and produce corresponding alcohols and amines with high yield and high catalytic efficiency. This metal complex is obtained by a method comprising a step for reacting a specific aminodicarbene precursor with a specific metal compound and then with a specific compound. It is possible to subject a carbonyl compound or an imine to hydrogenation reduction by reducing the carbonyl compound or the imine by using a hydrogen donor in the presence of said metal complex.
