Abstract:
Provided is a metal processing method that can manufacture press processed products replete with ductility while providing high strength. When press deformation processing of a ferrous material in which an austenite state has been formed by preheating is carried out in this metal processing method by clamping pressure with a metal mold constituted such that the temperature is adjustable, heat is exchanged between the metal mold and ferrous material. The ferrous material is cooled to a prescribed temperature band that is included in a temperature band from the nose vertex temperature to the martensite transition completion temperature at a cooling rate greater than a rate that passes through the nose in the isothermal diagram for that ferrous material. After this prescribed temperature band is maintained for a prescribed time with the clamping pressure state unchanged, the metal mold is released, and cooling begins again. Furthermore, by adjusting each of the prescribed temperature band and the prescribed time, the martensite, bainite, ferrite, and austenite proportions are changed at the same time as the ferrous material is molded, and the strength and elongation of the ferrous material are changed.
