Abstract:

A metallic tube for housing optical fibers therein, which comprises a metallic tube base for housing optical fibers and, formed on the surface thereof in this order, an aluminum coating layer and an oxide coating layer having corrosion resistance and wearing resistance; another metallic tube for housing optical fibers therein, which comprises a metallic tube base for housing optical fibers and, formed on the surface thereof, either an Al-X alloy coating layer (wherein X is one or two of manganese, titanium, nickel, chromium, niobium, magnesium, iron, indium, and tin) or a composite coating layer containing aluminum as the main component and at least one member selected from the group consisting of carbides, oxides, and organic compounds; and still another metallic tube for housing optical fibers therein, which has excellent corrosion resistance and is produced by forming an aluminum or aluminum alloy coating layer on the surface of a metallic tube base for housing optical fibers and smoothing the coating layer to reduce the maximum height (R�y?) of the coating layer to 3 $g(m)m or smaller; and processes for producing the same.
