Title:
METAMATERIAL HAVING A HIGH REFRACTIVE INDEX
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/111991
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a metamaterial, and more particularly, to a metamaterial, the refractive index of which is extremely high to the point that such a material cannot be found in nature. According to the present invention, provided is a metamaterial having a high refractive index, comprising a dielectric substrate, and a conductive layer formed on the dielectric substrate and made of a plurality of unit cells with a predetermined gap therebetween. The refractive index in a predetermined frequency range is higher than the refractive index of the substrate. The polarization and magnetization of the metamaterial of the present invention may be deliberately adjusted, and thus the metamaterial of the present invention has an extremely high refractive index. When a substrate made of a flexible material is used, a three-dimensional material may be easily covered, and therefore the metamaterial of the present invention can be applied to various fields.
