Abstract:
Disclosed are a metasurface-based image combiner and an augmented reality device employing same. The disclosed image combiner comprises: a waveguide; an input-coupling device provided in an input-coupling area of the waveguide; and a folding/output-coupling device provided in a folding/output-coupling area of the waveguide, wherein the folding/output-coupling device is an anisotropic metasurface including first and second sub-metasurfaces provided in different first and second sub-regions of the folding/output-coupling area, and the anisotropic metasurface may be configured to allow a first ray having a first incident angle, among rays input through different regions of the input/coupling area, to be refracted toward an eyebox by the first sub-metasurface and to allow a second ray having a second incident angle to be refracted toward the eyebox by the second sub-metasurface.
