Abstract:
Provided is a method for adding an antifoam agent that can easily improve the degree of foam suppression obtained with respect to the amount of antifoam agent added in an aqueous system that is markedly foaming such as in a craft pulp production step. The method for adding an antifoam agent to a liquid at which foam can arise has: a step for quantitatively detecting the degree of foaming at the surface of the liquid using a contactless detection means positioned separated from the surface of the liquid and a contact detection means contacting the liquid surface, and on the basis of the degree of foaming quantitatively detected, adjusts the amount added of the antifoam agent. The adjustment of the amount added of the antifoam agent is preferably performed on the basis of the difference between a first liquid surface height detected by the contactless detection means and a second liquid surface height detected by the contact detection means, and is preferably performed with respect to a liquid in a craft pulp production step.
