The present application relates to the technical field of intelligent household appliances. Disclosed is a method for controlling an air conditioner, the method comprising: acquiring the heart rate and age of a user; according to the age of the user, determining heart rate threshold ranges in different states of the user; matching the heart rate threshold range corresponding to the heart rate of the user, and according to a correspondence between the heart rate threshold range and the state of the user, determining the state of the user; and according to the state of the user, controlling the operation of an air conditioner. By means of the method, according to the heart rate and age of the user, the state of the user is accurately determined, such that the operation of the air conditioner is accurately controlled according to the state of the user, so as to improve environments in different states of the user, thereby improving the user experience. Further disclosed in the present application are an apparatus for controlling an air conditioner, and an air conditioner.
