Description:
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING THE WINDING OF CABLES IN REEL

OR COIL FORM

Technical Field

The invention is related to a method and apparatus for improving the winding process of cables by preventing uncontrolled movement and overlapping of cables in cable winding machines, thereby also preventing the reels from having an unaesthetic look and providing to maintain the standard value of the bending diameter of cables.

Prior Art

In the cable winding machines used nowadays, cables are mounted onto a traverse or other mobile mechanism and are wound around reels that are made of plastic, wood, or metal material, by means of a system that can only move up and down. In the present system as the horizontal distance between the traverse unit that can only move up and down, and the winding head increases the cable that moves within this area, moves out from the guidance of the traverse unit and starts to move on its own and this causes the cable rows on the reel/coil to overlap. This situation causes the cable that is wound to be bent with a smaller diameter, relative to the bending diameter that is determined by international standards and causes the cable/coil to have an unaesthetic look.

The application numbered 2017/17640 discloses a machine that functions as a winding, packaging and packing machine in cable production lines, which enables to deliver the cables that have been wound at the cable winding group without unraveling, to the packaging section. A pressure bar and a retaining jaw which prevents the unraveling of the wound cable after the cable winding process in a cable winding machine is completed is disclosed. The invention is related to an improvement carried out after winding and during the process of delivery to the packaging station; therefore the above-mentioned invention is not related to preventing the uncontrolled movement of the cables that may occur during the winding process and to preventing the overlapping of the cables, thereby providing a solution to unaesthetic looking cables.

Another disadvantage related to the winding process carried out according to the application numbered 2017/17640 is that the locking jaws have a certain size and therefore it is mandatory for the coil and reels to be stationary during operation. By means of our invention which will be described in detail below, the horizontal distance between the traverse unit and the winding head is minimized using an apparatus that can not only move up and down, but can move forward and back and right and left, wherein said apparatus is mounted on the traverse mechanism or another mobile mechanism. Therefore the cable that is wound using this method, is brought as close as possible to the winding head and the uncontrolled movement due to factors such as shaking/swinging during winding and the overlapping of cable rows are prevented.

This invention has set out from the known state of the art, and it aims to eliminate the present disadvantages by the apparatus and improvements carried out concerning the cable winding process and it additionally aims to prevent the uncontrolled movement of the wound cable thereby also preventing the reels from having an unaesthetic look. The figures of the invention have been provided for illustration purposes only and they should not be construed to limit the method and apparatus of the invention.

Description of the Invention

The present invention is a method and apparatus related thereto, that has been developed to improve the winding of round and/or flat cables in coil form and/or around a reel that is made of plastic, wood, metal material, by passing said cables through an apparatus that can move forward and backward and/or right-left and/or up-down where said apparatus has been attached to and/or mounted on a traverse (T) mechanism or other moving mechanisms, comprising a winding head (3) that can wind cables (4) around a reel or in coil form by rotating, which includes a winding head bottom flange (3.1) and a winding head top flange (3.2), a reel (2) that is attached to this winding head (3), having a bottom flange (2.1) and a top flange (2.2) that can rotate around its own axis together with this winding head (3), and an apparatus (1) having a cable that passes through it, that enables winding of the cable (4) around a reel by means of this rotational motion, and that minimizes the horizontal distance between the traverse mechanism (T) and the winding head (3) by enabling the cable to move up and down, right-left and forward and backward.

The method and apparatus (1) having a cable passing through it subject to the invention prevents the increase of horizontal distance between the winding head (3) and the traverse unit (T) of cable winding machines of the prior art, wherein said traverse unit is limited to an up-down movement, and it may or may not include a pipe; thereby the invention also prevents the uncontrolled movement of the cable (4) on its own, after deviating from the guidance of the traverse unit (T) and overlapping of said cable rows on a reel/coil.

Moreover, by means of the method and apparatus (1) having a cable passing through it subject to the invention, it is prevented for the cable (4) that is wound to be bent with a smaller diameter, relative to the bending diameter that is determined by international standards, which causes the coil/reel (2) to have an unaesthetic look. This method not only allows the apparatus (1), related to said method, having a cable passing through it to be able to move in various directions, but it also prevents the overlapping of cable (4) rows due to negative factors such as shaking/swinging during the winding process, by bringing the wound cable (4) as close as possible to the winding head (3) and in turn as close as possible to the reel (2) that is mounted to the winding head (3).

The right-left movement of the apparatus (1) having a cable passing through, ensures that the cable (4) is constantly tangent to the outer diameter of the coil/reel (2) by tracking the gradually increasing coil/reel (2) outer diameter, and the forward and backward movement of the apparatus ensures that the distance of the apparatus (1) and the reel/coil (2) is kept constant.

The apparatus (1) which moves up and down and operates in relation to the traverse unit (T) during the cable winding process is withdrawn at the bottom and top points of the reel/coil (2) if desired, and its contact with the bottom flange (3.1) of the winding head and the top flange (3.2) of the winding head, and the bottom flange (2.1) of the reel and the top flange (2.2) of the reel is prevented.

The embodiments illustrated in the figures relating to the apparatus (1) having a cable passing through it is described only for exemplary purposes. Several variations can be obtained as defined in the attached claims, without deviating from the scope of the invention. It must be noted that the changes in the number, shape, material, etc. relating to the apparatus shall not change the principle function of the aspect and embodiment of the invention and that new embodiments can be achieved without deviating from the scope of the invention.
