Abstract:
According to the present invention, a base material which is substantially transparent to a wavelength used by an optical member is prepared (S1). The base material is subjected to an alignment treatment wherein the base material is irradiated with linearly polarized ultraviolet light having a wavelength of 200 nm or less (S2). A polymerizable liquid crystal compound is superposed on the base material, which has been subjected to the alignment treatment (S3). The polymerizable liquid crystal compound is aligned in accordance with the state of the base material, thereby forming a retardation layer (S3 to S5).
