Title:
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEPARATING AND REMOVING TRITIATED WATER FROM TRITIUM-CONTAINING WATER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/085046
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A large amount of radioactive (tritiated) contaminated water was produced as a result of the nuclear meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Even now, after groundwater contamination prevention measures have been completed, contaminated water is being produced daily. Currently, the contaminated water is being purified using devices for removing 62 types of radionuclides, but no definitive solution for tritium has been discovered. This invention is a contaminated water processing method comprising: a step for cooling contaminated water comprising mixed tritiated water and normal water in a water tank; a step for blowing negatively charged bubbles into the contaminated water; and a step for collecting tritiated water ice from the top of the water tank. The cooling temperature is set to a temperature between the freezing points of the tritiated water and normal water.
