Abstract:
Provided is a method for automatically calculating muscle mass from a tomographic image. The method comprises the steps of: selecting an image, in which a predetermined lumbar vertebra is displayed, from a plurality of tomographic images; generating, in the selected image, a contour for a vertebrae region having a hounsfield unit (HU) value in a first range; separately defining the vertebrae region as an elliptical vertebral body region and a pair of transverse process regions symmetrically protruding from the vertebral body region; generating a contour for a psoas muscle region which is located between the vertebral body region and each transverse process region and has the HU value in a second range; and calculating an area of the psoas muscle region.
