Abstract:
[Problem] To prevent a large flat thin glass sheet from breaking under the weight thereof and to process the glass sheet with high precision and good efficiency when heating the glass sheet and causing the glass sheet to bend under the weight thereof to form a predetermined curved surface (paraboloid). [Solution] In the present invention, at least a portion of the peripheral edge part of a thermoplastic sheet to be bent, which is arranged in a horizontal state, is heated while being retained, the inside part of the peripheral edge part is caused to fall under the weight thereof, and tension is applied in the direction of bending the thermoplastic sheet into a predetermined curvature, the direction being the surface direction of the thermoplastic sheet when at least a portion of the peripheral edge part of the thermoplastic sheet is retained in a form for prescribing the peripheral edge shape in a shape to be shaped. The thermoplastic sheet is thereby pulled in the surface direction during heating thereof, and therefore, the appropriate tension acts on the thermoplastic sheet and breakage thereof does not occur, the degree of bending of the thermoplastic sheet can be adjusted by adjusting the mass of a weight, and an accurate curved-surface thermoplastic sheet can be manufactured with high yield.
