A massage device control method and a massage device are provided. The massage device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include: multiple massage modules corresponding to multiple body parts; multiple sensors in the multiple massage modules; at least one memory for storing one or more instructions; and at least one processor. The at least one processor may: execute the one or more instructions stored in the memory to drive the multiple massage modules on the basis of a user's massage start input; identify a massage module, among the multiple massage modules, from which the user's body part has escaped, on the basis of sensor values from the multiple sensors while the multiple massage modules are driven; in response to identifying the massage module from which the user's body part has escaped, adjust a massage member in the identified massage module to a state in which the user's body part can be reinserted into the identified massage module, and then pause; and redrive the identified massage module on the basis of detecting that the body part has been reinserted into the identified massage module.
