Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for converting ethylbenzene contained in a C8 aromatic
hydrocarbon-mixed raw material into benzene at a high conversion rate. The
method comprises contacting a C8 aromatic hydrocarbon-mixed raw material containing
ethylbenzene with an acid catalyst having at least one metal selected from the
metals belonging to Groups VII and VIII in the periodic table in the presence of
H2 to convert the ethylbenzene into benzene. The raw material contains
a C9-C10 aromatic hydrocarbon containing ethyltoluene, and the conversion
of the ethyltoluene into toluene is achieved simultaneously with the conversion
of the ethylbenzene.
