A method of organic-compound dehalogenation by which organic compounds including a halide having a functional group and a halogen bonded thereto through an SP3 bond can be advantageously dehalogenated. Organic compounds including a halide having a functional group and a halogen bonded thereto in the β-position through an SP3 bond are dissolved in a non-polar solvent. The compounds in the dissolved state is irradiated with a microwave in the presence of a metal or a metal oxide. Thereafter, the resultant metal halide or metal halide oxide is removed. The metal element used as the metal or metal oxide may be Fe, Ni, or Co. The treatment is preferably conducted in the presence of a noble-metal catalyst.
