Abstract:
Proposed is a method for efficiently desulfurizing a molten metal in a short time without passing an excessive current when applying a potential difference between a slag and the metal. A method for desulfurizing a molten metal by using a DC power source, setting an electrode in contact with the molten metal as a negative electrode, setting an electrode in contact with only the molten slag as a positive electrode, and providing a potential difference between the molten slag and the molten metal through both electrodes, wherein an applied current density Ja is determined according to equilibrium reaching S concentration [S]e0 before applying the potential difference, so that an equilibrium reaching S concentration [S]ea when the potential difference is applied becomes equal to or lower than a target S concentration [S]ft.
